Obituary

Mother Claudia Ruth Griffeth, the eldest of four siblings, was born on May 5, 1932, in Athens, Georgia, to the late Claud "Sunny" Robinson and Gussie Brown Robinson.

She attended the public schools of Athens-Clarke County and accepted Christ at an early age, joining Browns Chapel Baptist Church. Her faith remained the foundation of her life, and she faithfully served the church for many years.

On July 14, 1956, Miss. Claudia Ruth Robinson was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Raymond Griffeth. Their union was blessed with four loving daughters. Following the passing of her husband, Mother Ruth courageously raised her daughters as a devoted single parent. Years later, she found love again and married Mr. William Charles Flanagan on March 19, 1987. Together, they continued to nurture and support the family.

Mother Ruth was a faithful and dedicated member of Browns Chapel Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board, and later was honored as a Mother of the Church. She loved praising the Lord and was always willing to serve wherever needed.

Mother Ruth had a strong work ethic and was employed at Cedar Hill Nursing Home Athens, Georgia, for more than 20 years. She later worked at the Georgia Baptist Center, Athens, Georgia where she faithfully served until her retirement.

Affectionately known as "Ruth" by family and friends, she was well known for her love of shopping. It was not uncommon to find her browsing the aisles at, (in her words) "Tree Dollar" or searching for treasures at the American Thrift Store. She enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories, and bringing joy to those around her.

In addition to her parents and both spouses, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Carolyn Griffeth; two grandsons, Jeral Dean and Blandon Dean Sr; one sister, Mary Robinson; two brothers, Willie Robinson and James L. Robinson, Sr.

On June 20, 2026, Mother Claudia Ruth Griffeth peacefully entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, love, and devotion to family. Her life was a testament to perseverance, compassion, and unwavering trust in God.

Mother Claudia Ruth Griffeth leaves to cherish her precious memories, three devoted daughters, Phyllis Griffeth, Connie Griffeth, and Sylvia Sneed;  beloved son-in-law, Kenneth Sneed, who she considered as a son; two grandsons, Dedrick Griffeth and Gavan (Jasmine) Crawford; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Though she will be greatly missed, Mother Ruth's legacy of faith, love, strength, and devotion will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched. Her gentle spirit, wise counsel, and unwavering trust in God will remain a source of inspiration for generations to come. She has now entered into eternal rest, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and has heard the words,"Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
