Mrs. Wordie B. Eberhardt-Smith, age 102, of Athens, entered into eternity March 1, 2015. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM, Sunday, March 8th at New Grove Baptist Church, 1228 Mooresgrove Rd., Winterville. Interment will be at the church cemetery. The remains will lie-in-sate at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1529 Springvalley Rd., Athens. Mrs. Wordie B. Smith was born on January 6, 1913 in Winterville, Georgia to the late Mr. James Eberhardt and Mrs. Wordie Collins Eberhardt. Mrs. Smith was united in holy matrimony to Robert Smith on June 4, 1932. She joined New Grove Baptist Church in 1927 where she served as a Deaconess, member of Faithful Few, and sang in the R.A. Hall Choir. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. All of her children precede her in death: Charlie Smith, Christine Smith-Strong, and Estella Smith-Williams; and one grandchild Bobby Smith. She leaves to cherish her memories her grandchildren: Robert Smith, Jr. Athens, Georgia; Wordie "Vickie" Trammell, Athens, Georgia; Janet (Orion) Sims, Clayton County; Shirley (Roy) Burgess, Athens, Georgia; Charlie Smith, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia; Lynetta Strong (Robert) Jewell, Athens, Georgia; Veolia Smith, Athens, Georgia; Ronnie (Donnita Hams) Smith, South Carolina; ten great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grand-child; two sister-in-laws: Grace Clark, Athens, Georgia and Sallie Eberhardt, Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
