It saddens us to announce that Mr. Allen Dale Silman, Sr. passed away at age 59 on June 25, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends in Athens, Georgia. Born March 10, 1965, in Monroe Georgia, to Jimmy Lawrence Silman Sr. and Isabella Dorothy Silman where he lived until the family moved to Greenville, South Carolina. Allen attended public schools in Greenville County and graduated from J.L. Mann High School in 1983. After graduation he followed in his father and brother’s footsteps and became a welder by trade and was a Certified Welder for over 30 years. In 1991, Allen met his wife Jackie in Greenville, South Carolina he always lovingly referred to her as the love of his life. The two were married on February 14, 1993, and remained married until his passing. The couple share a blended family with daughter Laiken and son AJ and 3 grandchildren (Aiden, Tate and Olivia). In 2001, Allen relocated from Greenville, South Carolina to Gainesville, Georgia where he continued to work as a certified welder until his retirement in 2012. After that he spent a lot of his time with family and friends. He eventually moved to Athens, Georgia to take care of his Mother Dorothy, who he adored and cared for on a daily basis. Besides family, Allen had three passions in his life: a love for grilling, fishing and the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved to grill out for any occasion and would cook for anyone if they asked. Nothing made him happier than to see the enjoyment in their eyes and the smiles on their faces. Those who experienced his legendary barbequing talent never forgot the warmth and comfort of his dishes. His philosophy on fishing was “Fishing is fun; catching is even better”. Whether he caught anything or not, he considered it a great day just to be able to fish. During football season you could always find him every Saturday, in front of the tv with his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Allen did believe in bad juju so before every game he would put on his Georgia shirt and would set out all of his prized memorabilia to secure his Bulldogs the win. For all that knew Allen loved him and never forgot him throughout their life. He was a big man with a personality just as big as he was. He never met a stranger and would do anything he could to help someone. He had lifelong friendships that he nourished throughout the years and brought him so much happiness in his life. He truly was a selfless man and a gentle soul which many people still refer to him as their “big ole teddy bear”. He has always had a tender heart and gracious spirit. Allen sought out the Lord and became a saved man in 2023. Allen was preceded in death by his Father, Jimmy Silman Sr.. He is survived by his Mother, Dorothy Silman; Wife, Jackie Silman; Brother, Jimmy “Jimbo” Silman Jr.; Daughter, Laiken Silman; Son, Allen “AJ” Silman Jr.; 3 Grandchildren, Aiden Monday, Tate Dixon and Olivia Silman; nephew, Benjamin Silman; extended family and a sea of friends with honorary mention of his best friend Tim Westbrooks. We are so grateful for your support and kindness during this difficult time. Your love and presence have been a great source of comfort to our family. ~ The Silman Family ~
