Mr Jones was born January 14, 1964 in Athens, GA to the late Willie Florence Thomas Jones-Barnett and the late Howard Jones. He was the youngest of 10 children. He was proceded in death by two sisters, Costello Martin and Elizabeth Jones-Easley. Mr. Jones passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and was very well known around the Athens area where he met many people while performing various jobs for anyone that needed help. His biggest group of friends were those he met in the "Downtown" area where he frequented their businesses to drink his "coffee" and strike up conversations with anyone who would listen, especially his friend, Charlie Mustard, head roaster for Jittery Joe's Coffee. This earned him the nickname "Uncle Jerry" to many that got to know him, as well as his family. Mr. Jones was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church, where he worshiped and developed both a special friendship and spiritual bond with the entire congregation.
He leaves to cherish memories with his siblings, five sisters and two brothers, Paulette Johnson (late Thomas "Jeff" Johnson), of Athens, GA, Willie Florence Resby (Tony Resby), Fayetteville, GA, Ruben Thomas Sr (Barbara Brown), Athens, GA, Mary Thomas-Schupeta (Burkhard), Kennesaw, GA, Jeanette Thomas-Watson (Greg), Watkinsville, GA, Vickie Thomas, Athens, GA and Abdullah Muhammad (Aseela), College Park, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, other family and friends.
