JIM “TACK” ELDER, JR. A.K.A. JAMES ELDER
Jim Elder, Jr. was born November 23, 1945 to the late Jim Elder, Sr. and Hattie Elder. Jim’s “Tack” earthly journey ended May 17, 2020.
He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church West. In 2007, he married his best friend, Crystal Smith, who later became his caregiver.
Jim graduated from Athens High Industrial/Burney Harris High, where his football career begin. He graduated from Southern University, where he was selected to play in the post season college football all-star “Coaches All American Game”. He was drafted by the NFL, New Orleans Saints in 1971. He continued his career with the Canadian Football League where he played eight years on four different teams and was named the #1 defensive back while playing in Canada, and retired at the age of 35 from the Canadian Football League.
Jim Elder, Jr. leaves behind a wife, Crystal Elder; stepson, Victor Robinson, Jr.; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter, Kamora Brice; mother-in-law, Mary B. Smith; two sisters, Peggy Huff and Hattie Ann (Charlie) Moon; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
