Mahalia Johnson

Mahalia was born to Rozene Johnson as a pillar of light.  She was born September16, 1953 in Georgia as an only child.  She departed this life on September 4th, 2025

She became a lifelong resident of Chicago, IL where she gave her life to God at an early age.  After public school and college Mahalia went on to work for the Chicago Tax Assessors Office for more than 35 years.  A position she held until becoming gravely ill.

Mahalia lived life to the fullest.  She found special joy in traveling and exploring the beautiful world that God created.  One of her favorite pastime was cruising and island hopping the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Caribbean.  In addition, her travels took her to California, Arizona, Mexico and Paris, France. In addition, she always found time to come to Georgia, where her roots began.

Mahalia is survived by her son, Talmadge Whiting and grandson, Aris Whiting and a number of cousins, friends and coworkers.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Rozene Johnson, Grandparents Sylvester and Callie Johnson and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
