On a warm summer day, June 21, 1936, the late Mr. Pinkney Robinson and Beatrice Robinson of Bishop, Georgia was blessed with a daughter, which they named Mamie Bell Robinson. And on a cool winter evening, February 27, 2022, her heavenly father called her home.
She attended public school in Oconee County, Georgia, graduating from Rosenwald High School in 1953. Mamie later married the late Milton Edward McLain and to this union one son, the late Darryl Milton McLain was born. Also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Grady, Charles and her only sister, Rosa.
Mrs. McLain joined Browns Chapel Baptist Church, Bishop, Georgia at an early age. Over the course of her life, she served in many compacities at her church, such as, supervising the operations of the kitchen, a member of the Usher Board, President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, and a member of the Mother’s Board.
Throughout her young adult life, she completed several years of study at Athens Vocational Technical School (known now as Athens Technical College). Mrs. McLain was hired by First Presbyterian Church (Community Outreach Program), who assigned her to the Pauldoe Recreational Center. And later, was appointed Director of the Pauldoe Day Care Center, where she worked until her retirement.
She leaves many memories with her family: grandchildren, Tymarcus McLain (reared in the home), Tiffany (Anthony) Cook and Taylor McLain; great-grandchildren, Kearstin, Laylah, Owen and Yarah McLain; brother, Harry Robinson daughter-in-law, Lisa McLain; special niece, Kuaretta (John) Lawrence; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
