Mrs. Mattie Lue Johnson was born to the late Charles Johnson, Jr. and Arra B. Charles Johnson in Gainesville, Georgia on March 20, 1925.
She graduated from Union Baptist Institute in Athens, Georgia and was an activate participant in the school’s reunions.
At young age she joined New Grove Baptist Church, Gainesville. After moving to Athens, she join Ebenezer Baptist Church West.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Johnson, Sr.; son, Ed Johnson, Jr.; grandsons, Edward Bernard Johnson, Payton Demetrius Mapp; siblings, Sadie Bell Johnson Craft, Clarence Johnson, Thelma Colbert, Hover Johnson, Horman Johnson, James Johnson, Ruth Browner, Elise Daniels and Mary Nell Armstrong; and son-in-law, Edward Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Lestol) Stephenson, Sandra Smith and Brenda (Jimmy) Bell; sisters, Addie Teasley and Lena Bell Hunter; grandchildren, Sylvia (Cedric) Johnson Carroll, Tharon (Leslie) Smith, Edward Tony (Shun) Johnson, Fenesha Smith, Edrick (Arnella) Smith, Tempie (Marcus) Smith, Zandra Sterling, Timeka (Tasha) Banks, Mia Cramer (Carlos) Woods and Byron Glenn; thirty-two great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
