Rita Ollie Goolsby was born on 28 August 1940 to the late
Harriett Cornelia (Johnson) Ollie and Willie Neal Ollie.
She graduated from of Athens High & Industrial School in 1959.
On 1 March 1969, Rita married the love of her life, Melvin Goolsby of Oglethorpe County. To the couple a son was born, Tyrone M. Goolsby, and for 19 years the couple lived in marital bliss until the untimely passing of her husband in 1988.
She is proceeded in death by her beloved Melvin Goolsby, father: Willie “Neal” Ollie, mother: Harriett Ollie, her brothers: Charlie “C.O.” Ollie, Frank “Do Back” Ollie, and sister: Mamie Mitchell.
Rita joined Billups Grove Baptist Church in 1953 and was a faithful member. Rita was employed by General Times West Clock and the Clarke County School System here in Athens, Georgia. She took her retirement in 2013 to enjoy time with family and friends.
Rita leaves in God’s care her son Tyrone (Falecia) Goolsby, grandchildren, Dante Leake, TyKiera Goolsby and TyRiq Goolsby, Brothers: Jeppie “Jack” (Joanne) Ollie, and Nevel (Mary) Ollie, Sisters: Florrie Payne, and Corina Ollie; reared in the home, Roy (Stella) Winfrey; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins
