Roy Lee Curtis was born February 27, 1962 in Calhoun, Georgia. He was one of ve children born to Roy Curtis and Ruth Pullum Curtis, and the only son. He began his eternal journey November 29, 2024.
He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, Dalton, Georgia. Roy attended Southeast High School where he excelled in football. After graduating from high school, in 1980 he received a football scholarship to the University of Georgia. The highlight of his college football days was winning the National Football Championship for the 1980-1981 college football season alongside his future brother-in-law, the late Jimmy Payne. Roy retired in 2022 from Athens Clarke County Corrections as a Corrections Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his parents Deacon Roy and Ruth Curtis; sister, Pansy Curtis; niece, Stacie Charmaine Calhoun.
Roy leaves behind many cherished memories with his wife of 37 years, Marilyn Payne Curtis; two daughters, Chevelyn Curtis and Leandra Curtis all Arnoldsville, Georgia; one son, Maverick Curtis of Athens, Georgia; two grandchildren, Zaire Hull and Nina Howard both of Arnoldsville, Georgia; three sisters, Kathy Beck of Dalton, Georgia, Angelia Curtis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Stacie (Scott) Benton of Oceanside. California; mother-in-law, Florrie Payne; sister-in-law, Natalie (Alex) Payne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
