Viola Favors passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age
of 89. She was the daughter of Arthur and Annie Sims. Viola
was born on June 5, 1934, in Athens, Georgia. She was the
eldest daughter of nine children.
On November 28, 1952, Viola married Willie R. Favors.
From their union came four beautiful children.
Viola was known for her dedication and determination in all
she pursued. She spent 45 years as a dedicated employee at
Goldkist Poultry.
A devoted member of Springfield Baptist Church in Athens,
GA, Viola actively participated in the Matron’s Circle and
Mother’s Board.
A loving soul with a passion for family, Viola delighted in
hosting gatherings with her sisters and loved ones. She had
a talent for cooking, especially her famous “hash” stew and
sweet potato pies, which were treasured by all who tasted
them. Sundays were always a joy for Viola as she attended
church services.
Viola was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie
R. Favors; eldest son Willie Lamar Favors; father, Arthur
Sims, Sr.; mother, Annie Barnett Sims; three brothers, Larry
Sims, Arthur Sims, Jr., and Benjamin Sims, Sr.; and sister,
Janette Cooper.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Stanley Favors; two
daughters, Judy Hairston and Lisa Favors (D’Lovely Gibson);
four surviving sisters, Louise Wilson, Dorothy Sewell,
Annie Mae Lee, and Lillie Pearl Stewart (Emanuel); six
grandchildren, Lamontrice Favors, Ricky Favors, Arsenio
Favors, Danidra Favors, Deondra Favors, and Jessica
Hairston; four great-grandchildren including Niyasia Hull;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
